It’s been awhile since I have been officially in Academia. Technically, since 2000 when I was in the SMU, Master’s level e-commerce class. It was an interesting class at the time as it was bleeding edge in so many ways, the curriculum was a little non-focused and their were levels of rebellion in the class when they realized that it wasn’t what their expectations were.

But what was great was learning something new again. It was deep knowledge about tools, techniques and for the time what the trends were.

I have long known basic SEO tips, tricks. You can’t be in the web industry and not understand it but in the last year, I have more and more moved into the management of these campaigns, what works and what doesn’t. Search Engine Marketing used to be a glorified term for SEO. But more and more there are nuances showing up and studying, becoming a Google Advertising Professional and knowing how to drive traffic to web sites, keep interest while there and making sure that our clients are achieving their business goals through this avenue is keeping me hopping in an academic sense.

There is so much to read, benchmark studies to analyze, tips to digest and it’s really exciting stuff for me.
